The Las Vegas Raiders have a unique opportunity arising this Sunday in Week 15 against the New England Patriots, according to first-year Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels.

No, nothing about the football game being played is unique. Honestly, it's two average or below-average teams playing in an afternoon game.

Instead, this game features two teams that are very familiar with each other. Not in the way the Raiders are familiar with teams of their division like the Chargers.

No, they are familiar because of the relationships between staff and players on both teams. Sunday is what Josh McDaniels keeps calling 'unique.'

“Honestly, it's a unique opportunity. And I would say that I look forward to all these opportunities, they don't come out around often. I know he's going to get his football team ready to play on Sunday at [1 :05]," McDaniels said of playing his former mentor.

McDaniels was with the Patriots for an accumulated 16 years, both before and after his stint with the Denver Broncos. He has won a lot of games there, made a lot of relationships, but more importantly has called it home for 16 years of his life.

Not only that, but he is going against the guy that you could say has taught him everything he knows. Maybe not everything, but close enough. I'm sure they grew very close to each other. So close, that Bill Belichick allowed McDaniels to call the plays.

"I don't think he's going to care a whole lot about how much he mentored me or what he did and vice versa. And that's not a bad thing. I don't think he would expect anything less from me than to just compete and do everything we can to help our team win, and I know that's what he's going to do.

"So, I look forward to the competition. I know they do it the right way. Eager to have our team go through our week of preparation here and get ready for a hell of a football game on Sunday."

It will be a unique opportunity for sure. But, at the same time, I don't think Belichick will care as much. Either way, it will still be cool for McDaniels and all of the guys who have been involved with arguably the most winning franchise in the sport in the New England Patriots.
