The speculation can now end.
Despite his efforts to get back to action, Ezekiel Elliott will be inactive for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday as they take on the Green Bay Packers.
This marks new territory for Elliott. Week 10 will be the first time in Elliott's career that he's missed two consecutive games due to injury.
Elliott suffered the knee against the Detroit Lions in Week 7. The thought was that since the bye coming immediately after the Cowboys' Week 8 matchup with the Chicago Bears, it would aid Elliott in his return. However, after being limited in practice all week, the Cowboys are taking the smart approach with Elliott, especially after his knee issue from last season.
Luckily for the Cowboys, they have an ace in the hole, Tony Pollard. Against the Bears, Pollard gain 147 all-purpose yards on 15 touches and scored three touchdowns, so he's more than capable of holding down the fort for another week while Elliott works his way back to the field.
The important thing is the long-term health of Elliott. Once December and January roll around, and playoff positioning starts to take shape, the Cowboys will need Elliott and Pollard healthy and continue being the dynamic one-two punch that they are on the ground.
This was a smart call by the Cowboys here.
