For all the bad luck the Dallas Cowboys have endured (Dak Prescott, Tyron Smith, Jason Peters), the team has stayed relatively healthy through five games.
Even seeing the return of players like Connor McGovern, Jayron Kearse and Michael Gallup to the lineup. Playing as if they were never hurt.
One player that's been monitored for some time, however, is tight end Dalton Schutlz.
Schultz injured his knee in the week two win over the Cincinnati Bengals, causing him to miss the following week against the New York Giants. Before returning against the Washington Commanders.
On Sunday, however, it only got worse. Schultz only played 18 snaps before being taken out of the game. Replaced by the rookie combination of Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot.
With the Philadelphia Eagles on the radar, it looks like the rookie duo may see extended action once again.
First reported by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. The Cowboys TE reaggravated the same injury suffered four games prior. His status for Sunday is now in question.
Schultz is in a contract year, playing on the franchise tag. The belief and hope was he would come in and have repeated success of the last two seasons to earn the contract he desires.
Up till now, he only has nine receptions for 80 yards. All in the first two games.
While his availability for Sunday likely won't come until Friday at the earliest, the Dallas Cowboys are showing resiliency despite being without key players.
Hendershot and Ferguson are both showing tremendous value as receiving and blocking options. Whether on the field together in 12-personnel, or one at a time.
Knee injuries can be serious and will linger throughout the season. This will be something to monitor from Schultz until the end of the year.
