The Philadelphia Eagles appear to have one of the biggest sleepers in the NFL on their roster.

Undrafted free agent wide receiver Britain Covey is turning a lot of heads during training camp. He's turning enough heads, in fact, that he's starting to feel like a player who could legitimately help the Eagles in 2022.

Pro Football Network recently proclaimed that the "Britain Covey hype is real".

From PFN:

The Eagles’ most noteworthy undrafted rookie throughout the first two weeks of training camp has been wideout Britain Covey. He’s received regular ink from beat writers in daily observations, and fans have become keenly aware of his return skills through YouTube highlights from his Utah days.

Well, on Sunday before practice, head coach Nick Sirianni, a receiver aficionado, added a bit more spice to Covey’s name. When asked about Covey’s performance during the offseason, Sirianni acknowledged the undrafted rookie has stood out since joining the team.

“When we were in rookie minicamp, he made a move early on in rookie minicamp with some major quickness, and you saw his quickness,” Sirianni said. “That’s what you see with him. He’s really quick. He catches the ball well. And he has great feel of what to do out there and he’s smart. He knows all the positions.”

Covey, a former Utah standout who is already 25 years old due to a two-year LDS mission trip he took in 2016 and 2017, still has an uphill battle ahead of him in training camp. Undrafted free agents aren't typically given a lot of leeway.

But Sirianni's comments seem to indicate that Philadelphia is comfortable with Covey in a variety of roles.

Covey doesn't have elite size — he's only 5-foot-8 — but his intelligence, work ethic, quickness, and versatility could lead to him becoming a key player in the Eagles' offense in 2022. Maybe he could even become a "safety valve" for quarterback Jalen Hurts.

It's still early, but it certainly feels like Covey is poised to be one of the NFL's feel-good stories this season.
