It was a disastrous season opener for the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback, Dak Prescott, will undergo surgery on his right throwing thumb and will miss 6-8 weeks. Also, guard Connor McGovern (ankle) and safety Jayron Kearse (knee) got banged up.

The Cowboys also scored the fewest points (3) in a season opener since 1989. However, there was one silver lining, All-Pro linebacker, Micah Parsons.

Last season's Defensive Rookie of the Year registered two sacks against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers which gave him four multi-sack games in his first two seasons with the Cowboys, the most in team history.

Parsons shared the record with Jimmie Jones and Jim Jeffcoat who both were members of the 1992 and 1993 Super Bowl title teams in Dallas.

The two sacks from Parsons Sunday also tied him for the second-most sacks by any player in his first 17 games (15) making him one of only five players to achieve that.

Parsons didn't get his first sack until his second game with the Cowboys during his rookie campaign. By midseason, Parsons was on another level. The former first-round pick recorded a sack in seven out of eight games from early November to late December. That span also included a stretch of six consecutive games with a sack and his first three multi-sack performances.

There aren't enough adjectives to describe the immense talent that Parsons has. He lined up at linebacker for 498 snaps last season and 374 as an edge rusher. He did both on a high level as Parsons spearheaded the Cowboys' defense by using his prowess of running down ball carriers from sideline to sideline and notching 13 sacks. Also, Parsons took 29 snaps at cornerback and even one at safety.

With Prescott out for the better part of the next two months, the Cowboys will need to lean even more on their running game and their defense. So, the Cowboys will need more performances close to or equal to what Parsons did against the Buccaneers to give themselves any chance of salvaging the 2022 season for themselves.
