The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some new faces on the roster in 2022. NFL turnover is a year-in, year-out ritual, so that's not a surprise, at all. But, it is interesting considering how much continuity the Buccaneers built over the last couple of years.

Regardless, the Buccaneers are going to need these new face to step up and produce in 2022. In case you haven't heard: Tom Brady is back. Meaning, the Buccaneers are once again Super Bowl contenders as they boast one of the NFL's strongest rosters.

Feeling the pressure yet?

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka isn't a new face, but he's entering what's assumed to be his first year as a starting outside linebacker for the Buccaneers. The former first-round pick rotated in and out of the lineup behind Shaquil Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul (when healthy) in 2021, but should be the bookend starter opposite Barrett now that JPP is out of the picture.

The Buccaneers need a big year from JTS and if they get one, it'll continue to keep the pass rush -and defense as a whole- near the top of the NFL, which is where it's been the last couple of years.

And that's why ESPN's Ben Linsey recently dubbed Tryon-Shoyinka the Buccaneers' X-factor in 2022.

Linsey wrote the following in regard to the former Huskie:

"Tryon-Shoyinka, Tampa Bay's first-round selection in the 2021 NFL draft, played 608 defensive snaps while working behind Shaquil Barrett and Pierre-Paul in 2021. He wasn't able to generate consistent pressure (9.8% pressure rate) in his time on the field, but he'll be counted on to make an impact as a starter in 2022. The physical tools are there for him to make that second-year leap."

There's one way to help ensure Tryon-Shoyinka racks up big numbers in 2022

And that's avoiding dropping him in coverage as often as the Buccaneers did in 2021.

Per Pro Football Focus, JTS' coverage rate of 14.4% easily led all EDGE players on the team in 2021. He dropped into coverage at the 19th-highest rate among all EDGEs with at least 17 coverage snaps (66 players).

The addition of Logan Ryan should keep Tryon-Shoyinka from dropping into coverage as often. Ryan could easily play intermediate-middle area of the field or anywhere in the intermediate area, really, which would prevent any potential big gains when Todd Bowles decides to blitz.

Either way, JTS will get plenty of opportunities to showcase his talents in 2022. And if he takes the desired/necessary step forward, the Buccaneers pass rush/defense shouldn't miss a beat.
