The Cowboys have a new shiny toy in the wide receiver room, Jalen Tolbert.

Tolbert has the task of making Cowboys fans forget about Amari Cooper who was the team's top receiver for four seasons. For that to happen, Tolbert will need to establish trust and belief between himself and quarterback Dak Prescott.

Last week, Tolbert made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, and he had this to say about building chemistry with Dak Prescott so far.

We’ve been able to build I would say, at least a stepping stool for quite a few points of chemistry," said Tolbert. "I did OTAs, finished OTAs and was able to run with the one group and get some plays with [Prescott] and listen to his cadence and how fast he talks in the huddle and his alerts and catching some of his passes."

This is of the utmost importance for the Cowboys. Tolbert's development was going to be critical regardless. However, seeing as Michael Gallup will likely miss at least the first month of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL, Tolbert finds himself in a position to be the Cowboys' No. 2 option behind CeeDee Lamb so his progression will need to happen quickly.

The third-round pick out of South Alabama elaborated further on what he and Prescott have accomplished in the offseason up to this point, which included a trip with several other teammates.

"Actually, this past weekend, I was in Miami with him, CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott and Dalton Schultz and Sean McKeon," said Tolbert. "We went to University of Miami and we had some good throwing sessions and just went to dinners and hung out, just to build some chemistry and learn each other. So, I think that was a great weekend. And you know, I really enjoyed it, we got some good work and got some good throws.”

Tolbert isn't a one-trick pony. Although he'll likely spend most of his time as an outside receiver for the Cowboys, Tolbert also lined up in the slot in college. Lamb and free-agent addition James Washington also have slot receiver experience so offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has a bevy of ways to get these guys the football.

Things will pick up significantly for Tolbert in a few weeks when the Cowboys commence training camp in Oxnard, California. Tolbert talked about how ready he was to showcase why the Cowboys drafted him when the pads come on.

“I’m definitely excited for the opportunity that’s in front of me," said Tolbert. "And just being able to go and compete and continue to do the thing that I love. A lot of people aren’t blessed to be able to play after college. And so I definitely have a special opportunity. And I’m looking forward to it.”

The Cowboys have several rookies who will Garner attention in Oxnard, and Tolbert is at the top of the list.
