If the Pittsburgh Steelers are wise, they'll quickly put in a waiver claim on a player that was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.

Jacksonville released offensive guard Wes Martin just shortly after completing a trade with the Green Bay Packers for offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen.

Martin, a fourth-round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2019 NFL Draft, has appeared in 32 NFL games with 11 starts.

That starting experience will make him an attractive player on the waiver wire.

The Steelers badly need some offensive line help — especially at guard. Trying to sign Martin seems like a no-brainer.

There's been some talk lately about whether or not rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett should be the starter in 2022 behind Pittsburgh's struggling offensive line. The feeling is that putting Pickett behind a subpar offensive line will stunt his development.

That's a valid concern, but truthfully it doesn't matter who starts under center (Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph being the other options) — they're doomed to fail if the offensive line fails to improve.

I don't think Martin is a savior, but he's a player that could certainly help the Steelers with a major weakness this season.
