This week, the Miami Dolphins (8-6) saw a number of their best players get named to the Pro Bowl. Good news considering the recent downfall the team is experiencing.
They are on a three-game losing streak, hosting a Green Bay Packers team that has won three of their last five. Finding their own footing on the offensive side of the ball and playing their best of the season.
For the Dolphins, they get to play at home this week, instead of another frozen tundra like in Buffalo.
While the Dolphins are currently the seventh seed, they were the number two seed only three games ago and have slidden further and further down the line. They now need a bit of help to secure a spot in the playoffs.
The New York Jets losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night helped but there needs to be a bit more. Several teams need to lose to make sure they can land a wildcard spot.
New Orleans Saints need to beat the Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals need to beat the New England Patriots
Atlanta Falcons need to beat the Baltimore Ravens
Houston Texans need to beat the Tennessee Titans
Las Vegas Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers need to tie
Indianapolis Colts beat the LA Chargers
Assuming the Dolphins beat the Packers, all of this happens goes a long way in landing the Miami in the AFC playoffs.
The Browns losing would mean they can't finish with as good or better a record than Miami.
Since the Bengals are already in the playoffs and beat the Dolphins earlier this season, it's better to push the suddenly hot Patriots down the line.
Both the Ravens and Raiders lost to the Miami Dolphins earlier this season. A Raiders-Steelers tie puts the on the same ground as Cleveland, plus a Ravens loss puts them at least one seed below Miami.
The Texans and Colts are both eliminated from the playoffs but need to push two teams who are currently in, down the line. They both have shown to play well against stronger opponents but need to finish these games.
A Titans loss puts Jacksonville in the four seed and the Titans out of the race for a week. Since the Chargers beat the Dolphins, but they both have the same record, it puts them below Miami on the wildcard standings.
Plenty to play for and plenty to win as well. If all of this were to happen, the Dolphins would be in position to clinch a playoff spot next week with a win over the Patriots.
