Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know about the big issue that has been circulating the league. No, not the roughing-the-passer call, a different issue. Although, that one is pretty bad too. The New Orleans Saints have now entered themselves into one of the biggest conversations circulating the NFL.
With the events that happened with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the concussion, the whole league has decided to take the protocol even more seriously, as it should be.
If you don't know what happened, here is the short version.
Tagovailoa was sacked in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills and seemed to stumble as he got up off the ground, and even almost fell once. The team cleared him to re-enter the game and decided it was a back injury and not a concussion. So, they didn't even enter him into the protocol.
Then, the next week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Tagovailoa was sacked again. This time, while on the ground, he appeared to go stiff, and his fingers started twitching. Tagovailoa left the game and went to the hospital. Right now, there is a current ongoing investigation with the Dolphins.
So, when one of the Saints' best young players, Chris Olave, entered the concussion protocol, head coach Dennis Allen didn't hesitate to emphasize what was going on.
"Well, the update would be that he is in the concussion protocol right now," Allen said when asked about an update on Olave. "I saw him today, he felt pretty good this morning. I texted him last night and he felt pretty good. We will follow all of those steps in terms of the protocol, and we won't put him back out there until he is cleared to go by the doctors."
It seems as if Allen made sure to emphasize that they were doing everything the right way, which is what you want your franchise to do, for any player, not just the franchise guys.
The Saints will likely be without Olave this next week. However, I'd rather that than him have permanent damage to his brain. The Saints are one of those teams that are respected for the way they handle things. Here, we can see them doing the same.
