The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a pretty heavy competition when it comes to the last couple of running back positions on the roster. After Ke'Shawn Vaughn at No. 2, there's really no guarantee as to what will happen.

Unfortunately, Kenjon Barner, one of the players in the running for that RB3/RB4 position, was placed on IR Monday. Barner has been with the Buccaneers since 2019 and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Buccaneers made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Pewter Reportlater reported it's a groin injury that has put Barner on IR.

As a result, the Buccaneers signed undrafted rookie running back Patrick Laird, whom attended rookie tryouts earlier in the year. Laird will come in and try to wrestle away one of those final spots over these next few weeks.

The addition of Laird keeps the Bucs' roster at 90. They have to cut it down to 85 by 4p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 16.
