The Dallas Cowboys will have an important element to their offense back after the bye week, according to team owner Jerry Jones.
Jones made an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Friday. When asked about Ezekiel Elliott's availability in Week 10, Jones made it clear that the plan is to have him on the field.
“I expect Zeke back against Green Bay," said Jones.
Elliott took a big hit to his knee injury versus Detroit Lions two weeks. However, he managed to gut it out and finish the game, and even scored two rushing touchdowns after going down.
Leading up to the Cowboys' Week 8 clash with the Chicago Bears, it was unsure if Elliott would play although he made every effort to do so. Dallas went the cautious route, though, and gave the keys to Tony Pollard, who respond with 147 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.
This performance only added to the flames of the debate for Pollard being the Cowboys RB1, something that has been floating around for a while because of his excellent season so far. Despite this, Jones has been adamant about Elliott's place in the Cowboys' offense.
“We’re going to go as Zeke goes,” Jones said, via Jori Epstein. “I really mean that. Zeke’s that important to this team and every bit as important as he was before the game. I really mean he’s that integral to our success this year.”
Regardless of anyone's position on who's better between Elliott and Pollard the bottom line is this, they work better as a tandem. The thunder and lightning approach of Elliott's prowess of running between the tackles and Pollard's ability to gash teams on the edges and hit his head on the goal post at any time with his explosiveness works like a well-oiled machine and is vital to Cowboys' success offensively.
The Cowboys should feature Pollard more in the offense, he's too good not to. However, despite not being quite the same back, Elliott still has tremendous value in Big D, and he'll be needed during the Cowboys' push to the playoffs.
