The Las Vegas Raiders got one of the most memorable wins in recent history this past weekend.
Their final play on defense to seal the victory was unbelievable. Their offensive drive right before that was massive as well, though. Most people aren't discussing that part of the Raiders' win, but the offense deserves plenty of credit for it.
They were down by a touchdown. The Patriots' defense knew that they would have to make the comeback through the air. Derek Carr and company did exactly that. Multiple receivers made big plays.
Raiders' head coach Josh McDaniels mentioned a couple of players that many may not know when discussing that final drive.
The Raiders' offensive line was banged up, and their depth stepped up to give Carr and his pass catchers time to put together a scoring drive.
Q: Can you just talk about that final drive to tie the game?
Coach McDaniels: “In that situation, everybody in the stadium knows you're throwing it, and I really give credit to our offensive line at that point. Dylan [Parham] went out, and then we had Hroniss [Grasu] in there and Jordan [Meredith] was playing quite a bit of snaps today. He and Hroniss, they hadn't played football – the two of them haven't played in a game since August. So, I give them a lot of credit for fighting and battling and being able to hang in there on that drive. Gave Derek [Carr] enough time to make some throws.
I thought Mack Hollins really kind of got us going there on the fourth-down play, and then had another one. Darren [Waller] made a good catch down the middle and then Keelan [Cole]. Like most teams have done, they paid a lot of attention to Davante [Adams]. Trying to really avoid him beating them, which they did a pretty good job of that. We had a couple opportunities, but I thought the other guys really had to come up and step up big, and they made the plays they needed to make."
The Raiders got a great performance by a couple of players that didn't expect to step on the field on Sunday.
That's the NFL by the final month of the season, though. The "next man up" mentality goes a long way.
The Raiders' offensive line was a perfect example of that in their win against the Patriots.
