Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Buffalo Bills restructured Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkin's contract Thursday, saving more than $5.6 million in cap space.
Per Over The Cap, the Bills now have a little over $11.8 million in cap space after the move.
Per Spotrac's Michael Ginnitti, the Bills converted $7.095 million of Dawkins' base salary into a signing bonus and added two void years to the deal.
It's a win-win for both sides. The Bills create some extra cap room and Dawkins gets the vast majority of his 2022 salary upfront.
The key takeaway here, however, is Buffalo has a lot of cap space to sign a proven, veteran free agent at some point during the season. Sean McDermott has a stacked roster that contains a lot of quality depth, but as we all know this is football and a serious injury can happen at any moment and in any situation.
With just under $12 million in cap space, the Bills can now have their choice at whomever is on the free agent wire both now and after final cuts are made on Tuesday, August 31.
