Best Bet: Boston Celtics (+4), per BetMGM
The Celtics have to be kicking themselves after letting Game 4 in Boston slip away in the fourth quarter. Trailing by one entering the final 12 minutes the Celtics scored just 19 points, shooting an anemic 7-of-21 from the floor. The Warriors would go on to steal Game 4 on the road, winning by the score of 107-97.
The spread has yet to play much of a role in this year’s NBA Finals. In each of the four contests, the winning team has an average margin of victory of 14.2 points. The Warriors have been particularly good at home this postseason, winning by an average of 12.5 points at Chase Center.
However, Boston rarely loses twice in a row. The Celtics are 7-0 ATS in the postseason following a loss. Boston hasn’t lost two straight since March when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown sat out the latter half of a back-to-back.
Celtics head coach Ime Udoka trusts his defensive game plan against the Warriors scoring threats. Though Curry is averaging 34.3 PPG in this series, Golden State’s secondary scorers have been contained.
Klay Thompson (17.3), Jordan Poole (16.4), and Draymond Green (4.3) have all been held in check offensively. The Warriors are completely reliant upon Curry, giving him an almost nonexistent margin for error.
Boston has the luxury of relying upon multiple players for offensive output. With Tatum and Brown playing the roles of Batman and Robin, Marcus Smart, Al Horford, and Grant Williams have all delivered explosive performances in the playoffs.
It’s not easy to win in The Bay, but for as difficult as that is, taking two straight from the Celtics is even tougher. I’ll gladly take the points in what should be the best game of The Finals so far.
