Finding players who are capable of laying the foundation to create a winning culture is of the utmost importance for the rebuilding Chicago Bears.
Signed in March to a two-year deal, Bears offensive lineman Lucas Patrick embodies everything that the team had been missing over the last few seasons.
Patrick, who spent his first five seasons with the Packers, is already making an impact in Chicago.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur knows what Patrick can bring to the table.
“He’s a tone-setter. He’s a gritty, tough, competitive dude. He’s a guy that is easy to root for,” said LaFleur.
Patrick’s versatility on the interior of the offensive line will be an asset for the Bears. Head coach Matt Eberflus noted that Patrick has looked comfortable playing all three positions on the inside.
He split time at right guard with Teven Jenkins in the team’s Week 1 win against the 49ers, and looked formidable in his time on the field.
“My first few years in the league I was a rotational inside guy. So I understand internally how to prepare myself to go in at a moment’s notice or come out at a moment’s notice,” said Patrick. “I’ve gone in for guys where their shoelaces popped and run four plays and come out. And I’ve gone in where guys unfortunately don’t return to finish the game. So (that is) another scenario I have a lot of banked reps at.”
It doesn’t matter where he plays or how much he plays, Patrick just wants to win.
Patrick has already made such an impact on his teammates that he has been named an honorary captain in just his second game with the Bears.
When asked about what it would feel like to return to Lambeau Field and face his former team Patrick replied with this:
“I wouldn’t be here today (with the Bears) if it weren’t for the opportunity afforded to me.”
Patrick and the Bears have an opportunity to stun the football world with a second straight upset. In order to start the season 2-0 the Bears will have to snap a six-game skid in this historic NFC North rivalry.
