The Dallas Cowboys are getting ready for their second game of the 2022 NFL season. This time against the AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals. The hope being they can avoid another disaster than what transpired on week one, Sunday night.

Players like QB Dak Prescott, WR Michael Gallup, S/LB Jayron Kearse, OL Connor McGovern and Edge Tarell Basham all won't play this game. All currently dealing with various injuries.

With all these players out, men on the team's practice squad are likely to be called up. A larger than normal number, with the number of Cowboys out for this game.

Wasting no time, the Dallas Cowboys made a number of moves on Saturday. Adding quarterbacks, offensive linemen and waiving one of their most promising young rookies.

The additions of both Cooper Rush and Will Grier comes to no surprise. Rush will play as the starter with Grier serving as QB2 until Prescott is able to return. Whenever that will actually be.

Neither is the elevation of Brett Maher, once again, or Alec Lindstrom. Maher is the only kicker the Dallas Cowboys have available.

Lindstrom, one of the higher regarded undrafted free agent rookies, will now serve in the Matt Farniok role. With McGovern out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain, and Jason Peters still getting in playing condition, the interior offensive line depth is short. Farniok is now the starter at left guard, and Lindstrom will serve as the swing interior lineman.

However, it is a surprise that the Dallas Cowboys are waiving the rookie nose tackle John Ridgeway. With hopes he can return to the practice squad. The front office loves to keep their draft picks and Ridgeway, despite an uneven preseason outing, has the upside of a reliable run-stuffing NT.

If he clears waivers by Monday, the Cowboys can put him on the practice squad.

Who knows if these moves are temporary? The uncertainty of when key players can return, as well as the output from the team until then may force the organization to make a large number of tough decisions.

Decisions that go beyond the extent of just this game.
