CHICAGO – While there are still a ton of questions surrounding the roster, it's clear the Bears only go as far as Justin Fields takes them in 2022.

Fortunately, NFL.com's Adam Ranks believes Fields will be the sophomore quarterback that takes the biggest leap in 2022.

Rank recently appeared on NFL Network's NFL Total Access and made his case for Fields.

"One of the reasons why we're so optimistic about him [Fields] is that you have a coaching staff who understands what his strengths are," said Rank. "They know what they have with him. They're going to lean on the defense, which is why they invested two second-round picks in the secondary. They also have one of the best running games in the NFL.

"They're going to put him in a position to succeed…. I think they've put him in a really nice spot."

Can Fields take a Joe Burrow-sized leap in 2022?

Probably not.

Even with the issues on the Bears offensive line (remember Cincy's o-line issues last year?), the Bears don't have near the collection of skill players that the Bengals had last year.

However, if Fields is truly a franchise quarterback, he will raise the play of those around him, which should lead to a nice season, in itself. And overall, the task of taking a Burrow-sized leap is something that can be accomplished, even if it's unlikely.

And if Fields does take a huge leap, it will be more impressive than what Burrow did in regard to personal accomplishments. To take an offense like the Bears to a higher level in Year 1 with a completely new coaching staff would be quite the feat for Fields.

Burrow is great, there's no doubt, but a lot of the infatuation with him comes from the Bengals' Super Bowl run. Playing four playoff games (including the SB) in front of millions of people will certainly place a player in the national spotlight.

Fields doesn't have to get the Bears to the Super Bowl to take a Burrow-type leap. He just needs to show a good amount of progression, put up some solid wins, and lead the Bears to more wins than expected.

And that can easily be done in 2022.
