The Denver Broncos are gearing up for their first game of the season against the Seattle Seahawks, in which they will play on Monday night.
Of course, this is a huge game for a few different reasons. This is the first game of the year, and it will be a tone setter for the beginning of the season.
This is also Russell Wilson's first game against his old team, one that he won a Super Bowl with, so it would be great to get a win for him.
However, if some key players are missing, it will be much harder for the Broncos to win come Monday.
As of late, there have been a few really important players that could potentially miss the season opener. Luckily for Denver, things are trending in the right direction.
For most of the preseason, wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland has been out with a throat injury, now coach Hackett is hopeful he will play.
“That’s what we’re aiming for… he’s going to be able to get some reps [at practice],” Hackett told reporters earlier this week. “We’re very excited for him to get back.”
Hackett also said earlier this week he was hopeful and 'crossing our fingers' that Jonas Griffith would be back in time for the Seattle game after dislocating his elbow against the Dallas Cowboys. But of course, we certainly don't want them to rush anything.
As for Randy Gregory, who will be starting at outside linebacker if he's available, and Bill Turner, who will be starting at right tackle if he's available, are getting closer as well, but have to be cautious.
“We still want to be careful with both of those guys because of the severity of those things,” explained Hackett. “We’ll keep continuing to work them in.”
The Broncos will need all hands on deck against the Seahawks. Yes, they aren't very good, but that doesn't change the fact that the game could get hard without some key players out there. This is definitely something to be monitored over the next week.
