On Sunday, the Saints will be faced with a difficult task in playing the league's best team, the Philadelphia Eagles. This is a team that can do everything at a high level on both sides of the ball.
The Eagles are a great passing team, they can run the ball well, they can bring the quarterback down and their secondary is legit too.
But, one Eagles starter actually gave the Saints some praise. They know this team won't just roll over. They know this won't be an easy win and they know the Saints' record doesn't quite tell the whole story.
"They are a great defense, man," Eagles now starting quarterback Gardner Minshew said. "Their really hot right now, and very physical. Their front does a good job of stopping the run. They match up well and are physical in the back end. So, it will be a good challenge and one we are excited to face."
Some of this stuff he is right about. I wouldn't say the Saints have a great defense, but it has definitely played better over the last few weeks as they have played great against some good offenses.
The Saints are pretty physical in the back end though with Tyrann Mathieu, Alontae Taylor, and P.J. Williams. When those guys aren't missing the basic tackles, they can lay some receivers out, as we have seen at times this year.
The Saints will have a problem on their hands too, even without Jalen Hurts playing. This defense has been playing well, yeah, but they haven't played an offense of this caliber, one that even backup quarterback Gardner Minshew made look good.
However, I'm sure the Saints would appreciate the praise, but now it's time for them to go win this must-win game and increase their chances of making the playoffs.
