The Las Vegas Raiders have had a guy step up and play some big-time football, that I don't really think any of us expected.
Tyler Hall, a 24-year-old defensive back who is now on his third team in three years, has really stepped up, and head coach Josh McDaniels has acknowledged his play as well.
“Yeah, I mean, he's earned this with what he's done," McDaniels said. "Really disciplined guy, scrappy, tough, does his job the right way, sticks his nose in there, and tackles."
"I think he just continues to try to grow as a player and he’s really earned the opportunity that he's had playing inside is our nickel. So, pleased with what he's done. Again, like a lot of our young guys, has room to grow for sure. But it hasn't been too big for him for sure. He’s got right in there and he's played in some critical situations.”
Hall was undrafted in 2020 but played nine games for the Atlanta Falcons. In 2021, Hall played four games for the Los Angeles Rams and has played just four games for the Raiders in 2022.
However, in the last four games, we have seen him step up. Well, it's kind of hard to step up when you weren't there, as he didn't play until Week 11, but still, he has come on.
This is a guy that I'm sure Raiders fans or media didn't expect to have an impact on any regular season football games.
In 2020, per Pro Football Focus, Hall finished with a grade of 29.0, which is terrible, to say the least. However, he also only played seven total snaps.
In 2021, Hall didn't have a grade on the PFF database, but in 2022, Hall is graded at 78.4, which is very good considering he has played 87 coverage snaps and 36 run defense snaps. In his four pass rush snaps on the year, Hall also has a sack.
According to PFF, Hall is the best coverage cornerback on the Raiders.
He is definitely a guy that not a lot of people expected to be making an impact like this.
