Per ESPN's Todd Archer, the Dallas Cowboys have waived running back JaQuan Hardy to make room for their latest free agent addition. As linebacker Malik Jefferson signed with the Cowboys, the front office had to bring down the number of players on the roster back to 91.
Right now, NFL rosters have a 90-man limit but offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón has a "roster exemption" as he's part of the league's International Player Pathway Program.
As such, the Cowboys had to cut at least one player after adding the former Texas Longhorns linebacker.
Hardy briefly became one of Cowboys Nation's favorites after becoming a featured player on HBO's Hard Knocks last year. He played three games for the Cowboys in 2021 and finished the year with four rushes, including one touchdown in the regular season finale at Philadelphia.
The Cowboys running back room currently has the following players:
- Ezekiel Elliott
- Tony Pollard
- Rico Dowdle
- Malik Davis (Rookie)
- Aaron Shampklin (Rookie)
- Ryan Nall (Fullback)
- Nick Ralston (Fullback)
Although it flies under the radar, the Dallas Cowboys will feature a fun battle for roster spots behind Zeke and Pollard. The team could go with a fullback like Nall or Ralston.
Another option the Cowboys haven't shied away from before is carrying just two backs. It will be a storyline to follow when Dallas reports to training camp in Oxnard, California toward the end of the month.
