Dallas Cowboys signal caller Dak Prescott is an established franchise quarterback in the NFL. Even still, Prescott is still learning deep into his professional career.
Prescott has been sidelined since the fourth quarter of week one. He has taken the opportunity to watch the game from a different perspective. As a result, he has picked up on some things during his on-field absence.
“It’s not that I’m learning things new about the defenses we face or anything like that, but I’m seeing more and more just how simple this game can be,” Prescott said, via Pro Football Talk.
Dak Prescott has been watching Cooper Rush operate during the last two games, both of which resulted in Cowboys wins. The Cowboys haven't been tearing it up offensively, but Rush has managed the offense well and is doing enough to put Dallas in position to succeed.
Prescott explained that wearing the headset and listening to the calls has made him realize how simple the game is. The new perspective has reminded him that slowing the game down is important.
“Hearing the calls in the headset and then seeing how defenses line up from the sideline reinforces that sometimes all you have to do is slow the game down and go through the design of the plays," Prescott explained. "It can be so (expletive) simple. That’s what I can’t wait to get back to.”
It is easy to forget that when you're in the action and things are moving so fast. Instead of zoning out while not in the game, Prescott has made the best of an unfortunate situation.
Prescott hungry to be back
Dak Prescott is well-known to be a fierce competitor. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he is itching to get back on the field for the Dallas Cowboys.
Prescott recently said that he wouldn't count himself out for the week four matchup against the Commanders. The more likely scenario, however, is that he is back in action against the Rams in week five or the Eagles in week six.
“Some people are OK with [sitting out], but I’m not built that way,” Prescott told Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today Sports. “It’s f—ing killing me not being out there with my guys. It’s so hard, but I also know I’ve got to be patient.”
Dallas has managed to go 2-0 without Prescott with wins over the Bengals and Giants. The Cowboys have another very winnable game this week against the Commanders, who sit with a 1-2 record and back-to-back losses.
Still, the Dallas Cowboys would love to have Dak Prescott back behind center. He's itching for that to happen soon, and his return could be just around the corner.
The knowledge he has gained in the meantime should pay off big for Prescott and the Cowboys.
