Earlier this week, I wrote that four-star safety Doneiko Slaughter was a strong candidate to flip his commitment from Arizona State to the Tennessee Vols.

That suggestion took a big step toward becoming a reality on Friday.

Slaughter, 6-foot/180 lbs from Roswell, GA, officially decommitted from Arizona State on Friday.

The Georgia native is scheduled to take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend, before the early signing period begins next week.

Slaughter recently took an official visit to Miami. His high school coach told Rivals that Slaughter "had fun" on the trip.

However, CaneSport, which covers Miami for the Rivals network, said they see the Hurricanes' chances of landing Slaughter as a "longshot".

Slaughter is scheduled to sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday morning at Roswell High School.

I'd be surprised at this point if Slaughter doesn't end up signing with the Vols.
