The biggest news in the college football world over the last week was easily USC quarterback JT Daniels' decision to enter the transfer portal.

Daniels, a former five-star recruit who signed with the Trojans in 2018 as the No. 16 overall recruit in the nation, started for USC as a true freshman. He lost his starting job last season after suffering an injury in week one and missing the rest of the year.

Kedon Slovis took over for Daniels last season and he's expected to be the Trojans' starter in 2020, which is why Daniels is looking to transfer.

The Tennessee Vols were immediately mentioned as an option for Daniels by several college football analysts, due to his previous connection with UT wide receivers coach Tee Martin (who served as the Trojans' offensive coordinator during Daniels' first season at USC).

At first, I kind of dismissed the notion that Daniels could end up at Tennessee. Mostly because of the Vols' already crowded quarterback room. But the idea of Daniels in Knoxville seems to be picking up some steam. And I'm starting to think it's a real possibility.

Rivals recruiting director Mike Farrell recently broke down eight teams that should be an option for Daniels. Of those eight programs, the Vols appear to be the most attractive option.

The eight teams are Tennessee, Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, Washington, Penn State, Alabama and Notre Dame.

Farrell suggests that Oklahoma, Penn State, Alabama and Notre Dame are long shots, due to their current quarterback situations.

That leaves Michigan, LSU and Washington as UT's top competition for Daniels.

Washington also seems like a long shot, considering their depth. But they're a west coast school, so they could be an attractive option.

LSU is set to go with Myles Brennan at quarterback, but they were also expected to go with Brennan in 2018 when Ed Orgeron added Joe Burrow. So you can't rule out the Tigers pursuing Daniels.

Michigan, however, appears to be Tennessee's top competition for Daniels. The Wolverines recruited Daniels and they don't have a clear frontrunner for the starting quarterback job (Joe Milton and Dylan McCaffrey are expected to battle for the job).

This could all come down to where Daniels sees a better situation. He could probably win the job at Tennessee fairly easily over Jarrett Guarantano and true freshman Harrison Bailey. Could he win the job at Michigan over Milton and McCaffrey? Probably, considering neither have much experience.

Still, I think Tennessee is the more attractive option here. The Vols are a program on the rise, while Michigan has pretty much topped out under Jim Harbaugh.

Plus, UT's offense under Jim Chaney would be a good fit for Daniels. Tennessee has added some athletes in recent recruiting classes as well. Daniels' arm, combined with the speed of a wide receiver like Jalin Hyatt, could make for some magical moments in Neyland.

This should be an interesting situation to monitor in the coming weeks/months.
