Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has received quite a bit of criticism this week for some of his recent comments.

Tannehill told reporters earlier this week that he doesn't feel like it's his job to serve as a mentor for rookie quarterback Malik Willis, the No. 86 overall pick by the Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Former Titans wide receiver Nate Washington was one of several former NFL players who immediately criticized Tannehill for his comments.

But don't let Washington's comments make you think that every athlete disagrees with Tannehill's stance.

Former Titans tight end Jonnu Smith, who was teammates with Tannehill in Tennessee, took to Twitter on Thursday evening to defend the veteran quarterback.

Smith called Tannehill one of the best teammates he's ever played with in the NFL.

I think Smith's comments trump anything that anyone else has to say. The only folks that really have room to talk about Tannehill as a teammate are those who have played with him.

Nate Washington never played with Tannehill. And neither have most of the other talking heads hurling criticisms at Tannehill.

I don't think Tannehill was wise to make the comments he made, simply because of the inevitable media backlash, but he's not wrong. Tannehill's job is to win games for the Titans. And in 2022, that's what he's focused on doing.

Smith's comments should hold more weight than anything we hear from players who haven't even played with Tannehill.
