The Tennessee Vols didn't wait nearly a month to fire Jeremy Pruitt for no reason.
They waited until the investigation into impermissible benefits was complete.
As a result of that investigation, Pruitt is being fired for cause (according to multiple reports, including from the Knoxville News Sentinel).
That means Tennessee won't owe Pruitt any of the $12 million he's owed, though I wouldn't be surprised if Pruitt fights back on that a bit. Money is money, after all.
Does this mean the Vols will have more money to spend on a new coach?
I'm not sure. It's impossible to know how Tennessee will approach their next coaching hire until a new athletic director is hired (Phillip Fulmer is set to retire following the news of Pruitt's dismissal).
But there's certainly a better chance now that Tennessee will spend big for their next coach.
