The Tennessee Titans were the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC last season, they've won the AFC South the last two years, and they haven't had a losing season since 2015.

Despite all of that, the national media still doesn't believe in the Titans.

And I have no idea why that's the case.

The latest example of the national media not believing in the Titans came this week via NFL.com columnist Adam Schein.

Schein made some "bold predictions" for the 2022 season, which included his "pecking order" in the AFC.

The longtime columnist has the Titans as the No. 12 team in the AFC in 2022.

  1. Buffalo Bills
  2. Los Angeles Chargers
  3. Cincinnati Bengals
  4. Indianapolis Colts
  5. Las Vegas Raiders
  6. Miami Dolphins
  7. Baltimore Ravens
  8. Denver Broncos
  9. Kansas City Chiefs
  10. Cleveland Browns
  11. Pittsburgh Steelers
  12. Tennessee Titans
  13. Jacksonville Jaguars
  14. New England Patriots
  15. Houston Texans
  16. New York Jets

Schein doesn't explain his reasoning for placing the Titans so low (it's laughable to put them one spot ahead of the lowly Jaguars).

I think the Colts definitely improved this offseason by trading for Matt Ryan. But I don't think the 37-year-old quarterback, who hasn't reached a Pro-Bowl since 2016, is going to turn Indianapolis into the fourth-best team in the AFC. I also don't see the Browns, with or without Deshaun Watson, suddenly being better than the Titans.

Tennessee lost a great player in wide receiver AJ Brown this offseason. But they added some solid talent, too. Trading for wide receiver Robert Woods (the Titans sent a sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams) was one of the most underrated moves of the offseason. The selection of wide receiver Treylon Burks in the first round, plus a healthy Derrick Henry, could mean that Tennessee's offense improves in 2022.

Re-signing edge rusher Harold Landry can't be overlooked, either. He was an extremely important part of the Titans' success in 2021.

Every year it seems like folks sleep on the Titans and every year they prove they're among the upper echelon of AFC teams.

Schein, like many before him, will likely regret disrespecting the Titans when the 2022 season comes to an end.
