With the first preseason game just days away, the Tennessee Titans released their first unofficial depth chart to the media on Monday.
Among a handful of notable things was Titans WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine listed at the top of his position group.
NWI signed with the Titans as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Indiana following the 2020 NFL Draft.
After making the roster in a special teams role as a rookie, Westbrook-Ikhine burst onto the scene in 2021, impacting the Titans offense with 476 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
His 57 targets in 2021 also made him second on the team behind only AJ Brown.
Westbrook-Ikhine has had to scratch and fight for every opportunity afforded to him at the NFL level. Him being at the top of the Titans depth chart heading into year three, speaks volumes to his growth and work ethic.
While NWI is likely to be a main feature of the Titans offense from the jump, the third year receiver still isn't satisfied with where he's at.
"Depth charts are written in sand."
– Titans WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
While NWI said he is appreciative of the trust his depth chart status reflects, he knows that maintaining that trust requires constant work.
"You always gotta prove that you're that guy," Westbrook-Ikhine told me. "I feel like that's what I have to do going froward. I just gotta be consistent and make the plays that are thrown that way."
The Titans depth chart hardly ever means much at this point in the season. As NWI said himself, it is constantly moving.
That said, NWI's climb to the top of an NFL roster just two seasons removed from going undrafted certainly speaks to his talent and make up.
Perhaps his lack of complacency does too.
