The biggest conversation surrounding the Tennessee Titans this offseason will likely center on quarterback Ryan Tannehill and whether or not he can take the franchise to the Super Bowl.
Tennessee had a Super Bowl-caliber team in 2021, but they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs (despite sacking Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow nine times).
Tannehill threw three interceptions against the Bengals — including a devastating interception late in the fourth quarter as the Titans were attempting to drive down the field for a game-winning score.
As a result of those three interceptions, Tannehill isn't exactly the most popular person in Nashville right now.
On Wednesday, Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan had a message — during an appearance on 3HL on 104.5 The Zone — for fans who are frustrated with Tannehill.
“For everyone that’s upset about the interceptions, here’s the first thing everyone needs to realize, this one might not make me a fan favorite, but y’all don’t know anything…the fans they really don’t know," said Lewan. "It could’ve been a wide receiver running the wrong route….it can’t just be one guy that makes it work for everyone else."
While Lewan doesn't think fans are frustrated for the right reasons, he at least understands their frustrations.
"I love Ryan and I think emotions are high and that’s how fans should be, they should have their emotions high," added Lewan. "They should be pissed off because we did lose and they have every right to be angry."
You can probably guess it from those comments, but Lewan thinks Tannehill is the right guy to lead the Titans in 2022. He doesn't view a change as necessary.
"Next year, I think you ride with Tannehill. He’s going to do what he’s always done for us — give us a fighting chance to win every single week."
Tannehill certainly gives the Titans a chance to win every week. But can he take the team to a Super Bowl?
So far the answer has been no. Expecting that to change in 2022 might be asking too much from the soon-to-be 34-year-old quarterback.
