Former Houston Texans head coach David Culley appeared to throw some shade at Tennessee Titans linebacker Zach Cunningham on Monday during an appearance on Outkick 360.

Cunningham was released by the Texans late last season and quickly claimed off waivers by the Titans.

On Monday, Culley told Paul Kuharksy that Cunningham didn't fit the Texans' culture, though he "spoke highly" of Cunningham as a person.

Cunningham was released after he was late to a scheduled COVID-19 test.

"We've got standards," said Culley last December (via ESPN). "Didn't feel like those standards had been met consistently And I feel like I made a decision that was the best for our team. This is about the team, it's not about any individuals."

Interestingly enough, Culley also told Kuharsky that quarterback Deshaun Watson could've played last season for the Texans if he so desired, despite his ongoing legal battle. Watson had requested a trade last year before the emergence of sexual assault accusations.

Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns after the season and he's now potentially facing a lengthy NFL suspension. I guess Watson fit the Texans' culture, but Cunningham didn't.

Cunningham, a former Vanderbilt standout, fit right in with the Titans, totaling 26 tackles in four games. He also had 10 tackles in the Titans' playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Culley, who also played college football at Vanderbilt, was fired by Houston after just one season as the franchise's head coach (he went 4-13). Texans general manager Nick Caserio cited "philosophical differences" as the reason for firing Culley.

Cunningham is under contract for two more seasons with the Titans.
