NASHVILLE — It has been a bizarro week for the Tennessee Titans (7-6). After firing general manager Jon Robinson on Tuesday of last week, coach Mike Vrabel's team did something they almost never do: let the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-8) beat them.
Not so much a loss, as a splattering.
Tennessee came into Sunday with a five-game winning streak over Jacksonville. The Jaguars had not won a game in Nashville since 2013. A win would have improved the Titans record in divisional games to 4-0 this season with two more AFC South games to play.
Instead, the franchise at a crossroads went the exact wrong way.
The Titans flatly embarrassed themselves
Not something one says often in the Vrabel Era of the franchise.
It is, however, the third time this season that Tennessee has done precisely that. The Titans fumbled four times, and lost three of them in critical game situations. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill's fifth interception of the year that came on a miscommunication with wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine proved damning as well. The Jaguars made them pay, turning all four Tennessee turnovers into 20 of their 36 points.
"We will all evaluate," said Vrabel postgame. "I was excited about coming back home and excited about playing against a division opponent. I thought we were prepared. I don't know what it says about us. We understand that there are going to be some ups and downs. We are going to have to be able to weather the storm and find out who is willing to give us that extra push here down the stretch."
No one would question whether this Titans coaching staff or roster the will to break through their first three-game losing streak since 2018. Ability, though, is something that is very much up in the air.
The elements that made this Tennessee team special are missing

Vrabel was asked on Sunday afternoon whether he felt he had enough pieces this week to win a football game.
"I always think that we can win a football game if we are able to do the things that we talk (about)," the coach said. "If we are able to affect their quarterback, be able to be efficient with our passing game, get some turnovers, take care of the ball, and be in a game where, when you can stop the run and force them to throw the football, then you affect the quarterback and control the game by running it. I do. I know that is what wins in this league."
Of the five things Vrabel listed, Tennessee accomplished only stifling Jacksonville on the ground.
The Jags did not need it. Second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence killed them through the air to the tune of 368 yards, three touchdowns and an 82.2 quarterback rating. The Titans pass rush, toothless as of late, did not get to Lawrence once.
Yes, the Titans are once again dealing with an insane amount of injuries.
They were able to survive them in 2021. This year's team looks like their collective soul has been sucked out by them.
