The Tennessee Vols are receiving an important visit this weekend from 2022 four star quarterback Ty Simpson.
Simpson, 6-foot-1/170 lbs from Martin, TN (about 2 hours west of Nashville), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 57 overall 2022 player in the nation.
Clemson is already strongly pursuing Simpson, who is the son of UT-Martin head coach Jason Simpson. Tigers quarterback coach Brandon Streeter has visited Simpson at his high school and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney made a strong impression during a visit last fall.
Simpson told Rivals in October "Clemson is a special place…..There’s a reason why they’re winning national championships there".
Tennessee, however, also made a good impression on Simpson last year. The dynamic quarterback told Rivals last summer "Tennessee is my home state school so they will be very high on my board". Simpson added "I really enjoy coach Pruitt and coach Chaney so we will see where it goes".
The young quarterback has plenty of confidence. Simpson said if he attends Tennessee, he wants to be the best quarterback that's ever played there.
"If I do decide to come to Tennessee, I want to be better than Peyton Manning and any other quarterback that has come through here."
That's the kind of confidence you love to see in a quarterback. That's the kind of approach that wins national championships.
And that's exactly why the Vols can't let Simpson leave the state. Every visit is a chance to leave a lasting impression on Simpson, which is why this weekend will be extremely important for Tennessee.
