Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs is having a terrific preseason.

The former Nevada standout has been routinely praised throughout training camp for his work habits and amazing catches.

It hasn't been all perfect, however, for Doubs.

The fourth-round draft pick has struggled at times with drops. That's not a huge concern at this point, considering we heard the same thing about Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase around this time a year ago (I'd say he turned out ok). But it's still something he needs to address.

In addition to fixing the issues with drops, Doubs also needs to make an adjustment in the way he runs his routes.

NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, one of the most respected film analysts in the nation, pointed out this week that Doubs tends to give away his routes via his body positioning.

"Doubs needs to improve getting in-and-out of breaks, He showed a tendency to lean forward telegraphing his cuts," wrote Cosell this week after breaking down the Packers/San Francisco 49ers preseason matchup.

That's definitely something Doubs will need to improve if he's going to stay on the field in 2022.

If he's giving away his routes to NFL cornerbacks, he won't find himself open very often. Even young cornerbacks know how to read a receiver's body to predict where the route will go (read the hips of the receiver, the hips don't lie). If Cosell is noticing that Doubs is giving his routes away, then NFL cornerbacks will absolutely notice it.

While Cosell noticed that specific issue in Doubs' game, he also noticed some good things.

Specifically, Cosell likes Doubs' explosiveness out of his breaks.

"Doubs looked quick and explosive off the ball into his routes, 33-yard TD came from the lot to twins and his quickness off the ball on the slot fade got him on top of [49ers DB Tarvarius] Moore right away," noted Cosell.

It's clear that Doubs has a lot of potential. If he can clean up his game a bit and eliminate the drops, he could end up being the Packers' next star wide receiver.

Not bad for a player who selected in the fourth round.
