A couple of reporters for The Athletic think a training camp standout will fail to make the Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster.

Bo Wulf and Zach Berman, reporters for The Athletic, don't think wide receiver Britain Covey will make the team, despite his success during training camp.

They did acknowledge, however, that if wide receiver Jalen Reagor is traded before the start of the season that it could change Covey's status.

From The Athletic:

Unless Reagor is traded before Tuesday, these five will be on the team. Britain Covey hasn’t shown enough as a returner this summer to earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster. Devon Allen is a sleeper to make the roster as a gunner and other teams will assuredly see the tape from Saturday. Deon Cain’s been consistent in practices and games, although he’s not a top special teams player, and he’s been stuck on practice squads before. My guess is that’s his path again.

Covey, a former Utah standout who is 25 years old, has had a great training camp and he looks like he could be a solid contributor for an NFL team. Keeping Reagor, who has failed to live up to expectations, over Covey could be a major mistake.

But at the same time, I can understand Philly not wanting to release a first-round pick after just two seasons.

The best case scenario for the Eagles would be to trade Reagor and keep Covey.

After Covey's standout training camp, there's likely no chance Philly will be able to sneak him onto the practice squad. And the last thing the Eagles want to do is watch Covey excel elsewhere.

Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman is known for making moves just before the start of the season. So it wouldn't be a shock if Reagor is dealt (the Chicago Bears could be a possible destination).

For the Eagles' sake, they better hope that's what happens.
