Kansas City Chiefs named a great landing spot for two key free agent defenders

The Kansas City Chiefs need to add at least one more edge rusher to their roster this offseason (two would be better).
Kansas City's pass rush was one of the key reasons the Chiefs didn't advance to the Super Bowl last season. The Chiefs managed just one sack against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game.
In Cincinnati's other three playoff games, Burrow was sacked 18 times.
The Chiefs, however, haven't really done much this offseason to improve their pass rush. So far, they're essentially running it back with the same pass rushers from last season.
Kansas City is rolling with Chris Jones and Frank Clark (after restructuring his contract) once again in 2022.
Melvin Ingram, who was traded to the Chiefs midseason last year, is currently a free agent. But Pro Football Focus thinks Kansas City is the best fit for the North Carolina native.
Ingram's acquisition was one of the more underrated trade deadline moves in 2021, and his 77.6 pass-rush grade was the best of any Chiefs player in the playoffs. His nine quarterback pressures were also second only to interior defender Chris Jones.
Ingram hasn’t earned a pass-rush grade below 70.0 since 2013, with a pressure percentage above 10% in every season over the stretch, as well. For around 600 snaps a year, he can assume a role similar to Buffalo Bills edge defender Jerry Hughes, taking over games in high-leverage moments.

I think bringing Ingram back would be a wise move for the Chiefs — especially if it's a one-year deal for $5 million (which is what PFF suggested).
But re-signing Ingram can't be the only edge rusher move the Chiefs make this offseason. They need to find a way to improve from last season, otherwise they'll be in the same situation in the playoffs in 2022.
That's why PFF also says that free agent edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney would also be a good fit for the Chiefs.
From PFF:
Clowney has been very patient the past two offseasons in free agency, weighing his options before signing consecutive one-year deals well after the first wave of free agency. Positive sack regression finally hit for him in 2021, as he racked up nine sacks on 53 total quarterback pressures after generating three sacks from 2019-20 on 76 total quarterback pressures.
Clowney paired with Ingram could give the Chiefs a nice pass rush rotation that would also keep the two veterans fresh.
This isn't a perfect scenario for Kansas City, but there aren't a lot of options left at this point in the offseason. Regardless, the Chiefs need to figure something out when it comes to getting after the quarterback. They absolutely can't enter the 2022 season without a better pass-rushing attack.
