The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to sign quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a two-year deal.

Trubisky was a hot commodity this offseason. The former No. 2 overall draft pick spent four years with the Chicago Bears, compiling a 29-21 overall record as a starter. He spent this past season with the Buffalo Bills, serving as a backup to Josh Allen.

On Monday, after agreeing to sign with the Steelers (he can't officially sign until Wednesday), Trubisky texted a statement to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"I am beyond excited and blessed for the opportunity to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization," wrote Trubisky. "I have tremendous respect for the Rooney Family and Coach Tomlin. They have built one of the best rosters in football and I can't wait to contribute and help this team continue their success."

Trubisky is expected to be the Steelers' starting quarterback in 2022, possibly serving as a bridge quarterback to whichever quarterback Pittsburgh drafts this season.

This signing feels like a smart move by the Steelers. A two-year deal isn't a big risk. If Trubisky doesn't work out, the Steelers haven't really committed that much. This is probably the most economical quarterback solution that Pittsburgh could've hoped for in 2022.
