Dak Prescott became one of the highest-paid players in the history of the NFL when he signed his contract with the Dallas Cowboys last offseason.
Prescott inked a four-year, $160 million deal with Dallas last March. That deal has since been restructured for salary cap reasonings. Just over one year later, and the contract is already looking like a win for the Cowboys.
Since that contract was signed, the league has seen numerous quarterbacks sign mega deals. It is the way of the league now — you have to pay for good quarterback play, or you risk falling into the dreaded quarterback purgatory.
Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, and now Derek Carr have all signed big deals after Prescott. Matthew Stafford Kirk Cousins have received new deals recently, as well.
The market continues to go up, meaning that Prescott's deal continues to move down the ladder of the biggest contracts.
The Cowboys could have looked even smarter had they not waited an additional season or two to sign Prescott. With the QB market exploding each and every year, the annual salary of these passers will continue to rise each offseason.
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Kyler Murray are a few more signal callers that will be looking to cash-in soon. That will only drive up the market, especially with the new TV deals on the horizon.
Signing your quarterback early is the best move. While the number might appear to be high intitially, it pays off down the road. Quarterback is the most important position in all of team sports, and teams are paying them as such.
Dak Prescott is firmly one of the 10 best quarterbacks in football. As more contracts get signed, his deal will continue to look like a bargain for the Dallas Cowboys.
