Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Monday that the program will honor the life of former Buckeyes, Commanders, and Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins during the annual spring game on Saturday.

Haskins passed away at the age of 24 on Saturday after he was struck by a car. He was in Florida training with his fellow teammates for the upcoming 2022 season.

The record-setting quarterback was beloved many in Columbus and across the nation. Those fans and colleagues will get a chance to show their love when the scarlet and grey take the field Saturday.

"Buckeye nation meant a lot to Dwayne," Day told reporters Monday. "Having everybody there on Saturday is significant. And we'll make sure we do things the right way and then moving forward, we just want to make sure we do it the right way and think it through."

Day gave a personal tribute to Haskin's life during his season-opening presser. He also talked about how his childhood dreams of playing for the Buckeyes eventually turned into reality.

"When you think about Dwayne, you think about the compassion that he had," Day told reporters Monday. "Certainly for all of his teammates and his friends, but he always took time after practice to be around family members, kids."

"He was 11-years-old, walking through this facility and said that, 'This is what I'm going to do,' and then did it. That's the legacy he's going to leave behind: You can set a dream and goal and achieve it, and then broke a lot of records that year in 2018. He set a dream and he chased it and he did it."

Ohio State's spring game will kickoff at noon ET. No specific details relating to how the Buckeyes plan to honor Haskins have been released at the time of this publication.
