Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is having shade thrown at him this weekend for the dumbest reason possible.

(And no, it has nothing to do with his family.)

Over the weekend, Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman wowed NFL scouts by running a 4.78 in the 40-yard dash. That's an incredible time for a defensive lineman who is 6-foot-6 and weighs 341 lbs.

Twitter users — and even national publications — immediately started comparing the 40 times of Davis and Mahomes.

In 2017, Mahomes ran a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash, just slightly slower than the time we saw from Davis this weekend.

I get it, Mahomes is a superstar — which means people pay attention when they see the name of the Chiefs quarterback in a headline.

But come on, Mahomes has decent speed for a quarterback (and even better field awareness, which allows him to elude defenders that might be faster than him).

Here's a list of quarterbacks that also ran a slower 40-yard dash than Davis (and are slower than the Chiefs star).

  • Matthew Stafford (4.81)
  • Drew Brees (4.83)
  • Eli Manning (4.92)
  • Jameis Winston (4.97)
  • Jimmy Garoppolo (4.97)
  • Tom Brady (5.28)

(Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who is frequently compared to Mahomes, ran a 4.75.)

The national media loves taking a jab at Mahomes when they can. But the joke is on them — Mahomes, regardless of his 40-yard dash time, is the best quarterback in the NFL right now.

I'm sure he'd take his Super Bowl trophy, Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, and four-straight Pro-Bowl appearances over a combine trophy any day.
