There's been a lot of speculation over the last few weeks about whether or not the Pittsburgh Steelers will take a quarterback in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh signed Mitch Trubisky this offseason to serve as the starter (presumably) in 2022. But the Steelers still need a long-term franchise quarterback.
The obvious solution is to draft a quarterback this year. But Pittsburgh has the No. 20 pick and there's no guarantee that a quarterback will be there that the Steelers like.
NFL.com's Adam Rank has a different idea of what Pittsburgh should be doing in the draft. He thinks the Steelers should focus on drafting a safety even if a quarterback is available.
Specifically, Rank thinks Pittsburgh should take Michigan safety Dax Hill.

Here's Rank's note to the Steelers from this week:
I thought about this a lot, Steelers. This might be something I need to talk about more later, maybe after the draft, but I like Mitch Trubisky for you, and I hope you give him a chance. I know there will be irate Steelers fans if you pass on Kenny Pickett here — a man drawing comparisons to Dan Marino back in 1983. But I honestly thinking you’re good. And it doesn’t look like Pickett would be great in that Pittsburgh cold. (Yes, I know, I’m kidding about that.) I’m going to say give Mitch a chance and instead go with Hill, who will end up being the DROY if you draft him.
Selecting Hill would be a great pick — especially since the Steelers still haven't signed another safety in free agency.
But if Malik Willis or Desmond Ridder are available at No. 20, I don't see how Pittsburgh could pass on either.
Finding a franchise quarterback is extremely difficult. And both Willis and Ridder have the potential to be Pro-Bowl caliber NFL quarterbacks. How can a team in need of a quarterback pass on that?
