The Green Bay Packers absolutely have to add another wide receiver to the roster this offseason.
Green Bay doesn't currently have a No. 1 wide receiver for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to throw to after trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason.
The Packers' current depth chart at wide receiver includes Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Amari Rodgers. Those are all solid players, but none of them should be top options in the passing game for an NFL franchise.
Recent rumors suggested that Green Bay is interested in trading for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Seattle, however, is reportedly "motivated" to get an extension done with Metcalf.
While this doesn't mean Metcalf won't be available via trade at some point — the Packers were motivated to get a deal done with Adams, too — it at least makes it unlikely.
Fortunately for the Packers, several other options could be available via trade.
One option is Metcalf's teammate, Tyler Lockett.
The Seahawks could decide that the only way to afford Metcalf is to trade Lockett, who turns 30 this fall.
Lockett is a deep threat, has been extremely productive the last three years, and has four years remaining on his contract.
If the Packers traded for Lockett, they could keep him for the next two years (which could line up with the final two years of Rodgers' career) and then release him after the 2023 season with a $14.1 million cap hit (they'd save just under $10 million in cap space).
That's a scenario that could certainly work for Green Bay.
The other option could be to trade for Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

McLaurin is another player looking for a big extension. He's not on the same level as Metcalf, but with the way the wide receiver market has exploded recently, McLaurin could look for a similar deal.
And if the Commanders aren't willing to pay him, they could look to trade him.
Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur mentioned recently that the Packers need to add some elite speed to their wide receiver room. McLaurin ran a 4.35 in the 40-yard dash during the draft process a couple of years ago, so he definitely has the elite speed that Green Bay covets.
The Packers have some options. And they have the draft capital to make a move without mortgaging their future. A trade doesn't appear to be imminent, but I'd almost be surprised if Green Bay doesn't end up working out a deal this offseason to acquire a top wide receiver.
