There's a new head coach in the NFC East. That's former Buffalo Bills Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll. He's responsible for a lot of Josh Allen and is undertaking a big challenge with the New York Giants and Daniel Jones. Whether or not he'll have success is for another day. Meanwhile, let's talk about how this impacts the Dallas Cowboys in the short term.
The Cowboys are close to keeping their coaching staff intact after the 2021 season. Dan Quinn and Mike McCarthy are officially staying with the team, but the same cannot be said about Kellen Moore just yet. Not after the Giants' hiring of Daboll.
The Miami Dolphins had scheduled second interviews with three finalists: Daboll, Mike McDaniel (49ers), and Kellen Moore.
That means that without Daboll in the picture, Moore could be considered one of two finalists for the Miami Dolphins vacancy. He's set to have a second interview early next week, per ESPN.
Jerry Jones doesn't expect that to be the case, though. He was on 105.3 The Fan on Friday morning to discuss the Cowboys' coaching situation and he expressed confidence in Moore staying in Dallas. When asked if that's what he wanted, he replied "Yes."
So far, the Dallas Cowboys have been able to keep their guys. Will McClay and Dan Quinn have been signed to extensions while it remains to be seen what happens with Moore. The Dolphins' decision should come soon enough.
Earlier this week, a report from Pro Football Network emerged on Moore not being expected to land a head coaching job with one team stating that they doubted his command of the room:
"But at least one hiring committee came away wondering if he has the commanding personality and leadership style to stand in front of an entire team and grab players’ attention." – AAron Wilson
On Thursday, before Daboll's hiring by the Giants, DraftKings had other four candidates ranked ahead of Kellen Moore for the Miami Dolphins.
All is pointing toward Moore returning to the Dallas Cowboys in 2022.
