Why the 2022 NFL Draft is more important than any draft in recent Chiefs history

The Chiefs have had some very good off-seasons over the last few years.
It starts in 2019, when the Kansas City Chiefs made a move for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo after firing Bob Sutton. It turned out to be great move if we are all being honest with ourselves.
They also brought in Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark after Dee Ford and Justin Houston left. Both ended up as two great signings for the 2019 season and both were huge parts of the Super Bowl run later that year.
The linebacker corps needed help in 2020, so Kansas City drafted Willie Gay, who has been amazing for the Chiefs. The front office also walked away with a steal in cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.
The 2021 offseason was about getting help on the offensive line after watching Patrick Mahomes get killed in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs revamped the line by bringing in Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, Orlando Brown Jr., and Trey Smith. And for some extra defensive help, they also drafted Nick Bolton, who became an immediate starter and had a solid season, himself.
The Chiefs need to draft well for future success
In this upcoming draft, the Chiefs have to get it right, for a few different reasons.
Free agency has been highlighted by the losses of Mathieu and Tyreek Hill. The pass rush and secondary still need help, as well. The good thing about losing Hill is the fact that the Chiefs gained three picks in this draft. That will obviously go a long way toward filling the void left behind by those two guys.
Those picks are back-to-back, which essentially means they can solve the issue of receiver and pass rush in the first round. Having back-to-back picks also allows the Chiefs to really narrow down the best player available while also cross-referencing their biggest need. No one will swoop in and take a player after pick No. 29, so the Chiefs will really be able to take their time and make some quality, well-thought out picks.
Where or what they do, who knows. Whoever is available will determine who the Chiefs will pick. But, they cannot mess this up.
The draft is always important, but this year is especially important. Patrick Mahomes' prime is approaching, and you want to make use of every good year you can, especially if you want to be a dynasty. The window to win a championship is getting smaller due to the money the Chiefs have on their roster.
Drafting younger players, that can develop into stars is what the Chiefs need to do to stay in Super Bowl contention for the next few years to come. The cheap rookie contracts will provide cap relief for a long window of time that will allow the Chiefs to pay their younger players while also "resetting" in other ways.
That all starts at this year's draft.
