Although far from surprising, the Pittsburgh Steelers have finally named their starting quarterback ahead of Week 1 of the NFL season.
"Mitch Tribusky is our starting quarterback and our captain," announced Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin during Tuesday's press conference.
"We're just really comfortable with what Mitch has shown us," explained Tomlin. "He's a guy that came to us with franchise quarterback experience if you will. He's comfortable in those shoes."
Tomlin went on to point out what differentiates Trubisky from the other two talented quarterbacks in Pittsburgh's locker room. Time spent as the face of an organization, playoff appearances, and overall winning experience in the NFL.
"His athleticism and mobility were attractive to us. He took care of the football in the stadium," added Tomlin while pointing out Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph also took care of the football for the Steelers.
"That made the decision-making a challenging one but also a fun one," said Tomlin. "Mitch is really comfortable in those situations and displayed that in just about any circumstance that you put him in."
As for the Steelers' first-round rookie, Tomlin sounds excited.
"I'm really pleased with the growth and development of Kenny (Pickett)," revealed the Steelers head coach. "I thought his acceleration of development really took off once we stepped into stadiums."
"His decision-making, the fluidity of it, his competitive spirit, his pin-point accuracy, all of those things really came to the forefront once we started coming into stadiums," said Tomlin while noting he expects the Steelers' rookie QB to continue such a fast pace of development.
