Dak Prescott could be coming back earlier than original expectations, said Jerry Jones on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday morning. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback won't be placed on Injured Reserve, leaving the door open for a return in the next four weeks.

"We feel better about it than we did Sunday night," said Jones. "Dak has a real chance to be out there throwing the ball pretty quick."

That's a huge plot twist for the Cowboys, whose odds of winning the NFC East crashed overnight after Prescott's injury. According to Jerry Jones, this isn't about being optimistic. Instead, the owner claims "that's us having good surgery."

Original reports revealed a timetable of 6-8 weeks for the Cowboys quarterback, which put the expectations for a return in line with the team's bye in Week 9. Having Prescott return ahead of their Week 10 matchup versus the Green Bay Packers would likely have the Cowboys' hopes hanging on a miraculous run to make the playoffs.

If the Cowboys' hunch of not placing Prescott on IR turns out to pay off, the quarterback could be ready in four weeks. However, nothing is set in stone. It's likely Dallas simply wants to keep the door open and this also allows Dak to practice as soon as he's cleared to do so.

Whether or not this is optimism from the Cowboys or them attempting to rush the quarterback back remains to be seen. There is some skepticism from the medical community, including Pro Football Doc who doesn't believe Dak can be back even after Jerry's comments.

The Cowboys are not looking to trade for a quarterback, either. Per Jerry Jones, Cooper Rush is the starter moving forward.
