Sam Williams had himself a great start in the Dallas Cowboys preseason finale. Facing the Seattle Seahawks, it was a good opportunity for the Cowboys' second-round rookie to line up against a projected starter a Top 10 draft pick at offensive tackle.
The Seattle Seahawks selected Charles Cross with the ninth overall pick in April. Williams and Cross played plenty of snaps against each other on Friday's first half and it's fair to say Williams earned the bragging rights for their first battle in the NFL.
Williams got the sack using "speed-to-power," a move he's shown multiple times this preseason. The rookie was able to finish the play even though it didn't look like the cleanest rep of all. You can watch the play below.
Later in the game, the Cowboys' second-round draft pick showed up in the run game with a tackle for loss. He made the stop on third down, throwing aside two blockers to make the play.
Williams has gotten a lot of playing time this preseason and has been able to show a wide range of moves. NFL analyst Brian Baldinger has praised the number of moves on his pass rush toolbox, which is exciting for a versatile player like him who can do a little bit of everything.
That versatility will likely earn him an important role on Dan Quinn's defense. The Cowboys defensive coordinator has made hybrids a priority on his unit and the Ole Miss product is just that.
