The NFL Draft Combine kicks off in less than a week, and there are several prospects that are worth having the attention of the Dallas Cowboys.
From offensive line to the secondary, there are holes all over the roster that the Cowboys must address this offseason. Dallas is a team capable of making a run, so that makes this offseason crucial.
The Cowboys could go in a number of different routes with its first-round draft selection. Not selecting until the back-half of the round should clear up some options by the time that the Cowboys go on the clock.
One position that might be worth considering at some point — be it in round-one or later — is linebacker. Leighton Vander Esch is not under contract, and Jabril Cox is recovering from a season-ending knee injury.
Therefore, it is worth looking into which linebackers could fit into the Dallas Cowboys defense.
Three linebackers to watch for the Cowboys
Nakobe Dean – Nakobe Dean has already emerged as a draft crush among Dallas Cowboys fans. The Georgia standout is a little undersized, but he more than makes up for it with his sideline-to-sideline ability.
He would add another dimension to the Dallas defense, as he can play a traditional linebacker role at a high level; therefore, allowing Micah Parsons to spend even more time rushing the passer. The athletic ability that the two would bring to the table would be special.
Devin Lloyd – Lloyd is another linebacker that can get to sideline-to-sideline in a hurry. A former safety, Lloyd is an athletic defender that can more than hold his own in coverage. Additionally, he has some similarities to Parsons when the Cowboys star was coming out of college.
If the Utah product is still on the board when the Cowboys make their pick, he is certainly worth discussing.
Chad Muma – Dean and Lloyd are all but guaranteed to go at some point in the first-round. Muma, on the other hand, is a player that the Dallas Cowboys could target a little bit later in the draft.
Out of Wyoming, Muma is a safety-turned-linebacker. He is a smart linebacker that can slide into the role that Vander Esch played in Dallas. Likely a late day-two selection, Muma is someone that the Cowboys would be smart to target to upgrade the linebacker corps next to Parsons without spending premium capital.
Linebacker is not the most pressing need on the Dallas Cowboys roster. That said, there is some good talent that Dallas will likely have on its radar come draft weekend.
