The Cowboys were certainly stunned when Randy Gregory went to the Denver Broncos after agreeing he initially agreed to terms with them. He was the team's biggest in-house fee agent, so losing him was a blow. But nevertheless, the Cowboys have brought back quite a few of their other players.

Michael Gallup, Dorance Armstrong, and Leighton Vander Esch have all re-signed with the Cowboys, and now a former undrafted free agent from 2019 is joining them.

Linebacker Luke Gifford agreed to a one-year deal with the Cowboys on Friday.

Gifford hasn't had the smoothest journey since joining the Cowboys. He suffered a high ankle sprain in the first preseason game in 2019 and wouldn't be active again until Week 6. Gifford hit the shelf again in Week 15, however, after he fractured his arm on punt coverage. The injury ended his rookie campaign.

In 2020, Gifford was inactive for the Cowboys' season opener due to a hamstring strain. He was listed as inactive for five more games and suspended for two due to violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Gifford saw his most action in 2021 with the Cowboys. He logged 32 defensive snaps and an additional 368 snaps on special teams. He finished with a career-high 11 tackles.

Gifford's been on the field for the Cowboys mostly in a special teams role during his three seasons with the team having taken 586 snaps in that capacity to just 33 on defense. So, this signing was more about depth as now Micah Parsons, Jabril Cox, Vander Esch, and Gifford make up the current Cowboys linebacker room.

This means the Cowboys still have work to do when it comes to addressing the linebacker position. They hold the 24th overall pick which allows them to add a premium player at linebacker early in the NFL draft next month if he fits defensive coordinator Dan Quinn's philosophy.
