The Dallas Cowboys have been dominant in rushing the quarterback this season as they lead the NFL with 45 sacks. However, one member of their pass rush has seen his last day with the Cowboys, are least for now.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Cowboys have waived veteran edge rusher, Tarell Basham.
Basham was signed by the Cowboys last March. He appeared in all 17 games and his 627 snaps were the most among Cowboys' defensive linemen in 2021. Basham was pretty productive as well with 39 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
2022 hasn't been kind to Basham. The six-year pro was placed on injured reserve by the Cowboys in September and wasn't activated back until earlier this month. As a result, he's only logged 26 snaps this season and hasn't put anything on the stat sheet.
That alone spelled doom for Basham, but the elevated play of several others had a lot to do with it also.
Dorance Armstrong, fresh off signing a two-year worth $13 million in the offseason, had amassed eight sacks in the Cowboys' first 11 games. Dante Fowler, who signed this past March, has five sacks and hasn't started one game yet. Lastly, rookie Sam Williams has seen his role increase gradually, and he's put in three sacks himself.
Basham is simply a victim of the numbers game. The Cowboys haven't missed a beat in his absence, which speaks to how good their pass rush is.
